Union Insurance has 17 branches and 31 communication departments, with the main business covering auto, fire, accident, and engineering insurances. In 1992, it became the first listed property insurance company in Taiwan.
Due to a large number of customers’ personal information, the Financial Supervisory Commission has strict standards for data center construction in the property insurance and banking industries, testing the ability of Union Insurance’s data center to plan. Vice President Shao-yun Pan of Union Insurance said that the company had been building data centers in commercial buildings. However, there were no countermeasures for incidents, making it difficult to estimate the loss of data centers and information in case of power failure, water shortage, or natural disasters, such as earthquakes.
High cost and high risk for building data centers in commercial buildings
“The head office of Union Insurance is located at the busiest Zhongxiao E. Road, and the area of its data center is about 99.2m2. Previously, due to water shortage, the data center was powered off, and the self-provided UPS could only be supportive for a limited time, which overall not only brought no economic benefit but also had many hidden risks,” IT Supervisor Cheng-neng Chen of Union Insurance said.
Vice President Shao-yun Pan considered that CHT-IDC data centers adopt quakeproof SRC frame structures, designed with waterproof gates and intercepting drains to prevent floods. Perfect UPS, fire fighting system, high-standard data center management, strict personnel access control, and professional data center specifications are quite reassuring. To protect customers’ rights and interests and avoid similar risks, the company decided to use the CHT-IDC data center in early 2015. After abandoning the self-built data center, compared with the previous cost, not only that half of the cost was saved, but the space in the prime location was also properly used, which greatly reduced the company’s operation pressure.
In terms of remote backup planning, CHT provides the largest number of IDC data centers in Taiwan. To comply with the Financial Supervisory Commission’s regulations and due to the trust in CHT, Union Insurance intended to use the CHT data center as backup and change the routers of branches and offices all over Taiwan into CHT.
CHT service is upgraded to launch the data center removal service
During the data center removal by Union Insurance, its complexity and high risk give a deep impression. Therefore, CHT proposed a “customized removal plan” for the backup data center removal of Union Insurance. This includes not only data center construction and testing but also removal drills, security confirmation, and risk assessment. We provide high-quality removal services without worries so that customers can move to CHT-IDC data centers smoothly.
“Union Insurance chooses the CHT-IDC data center because it trusts the professionals, which enables the company to focus on business development and lays a good foundation for the company’s future,” Vice President Shao-yun Pan said. With such a foundation, Union Insurance intends to complete a great leap in the system in recent years, providing perfect and intimate services so that customers can insure, settle claims, and inquire about policies directly via their mobile phones and computers.
